Joshua Durie, a Grade 11 pupil at Somerset College, has been awarded the prestigious Gold President’s Award.
Josh received his award from HRH, Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward and the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela – at a special ceremony in Johannesburg.
The participant must complete at least 72 hours of regular service over 12 months; select a physical activity, and a skill, and show regular effort and improvement over 12 months.
They must also undertake an adventurous journey of at least four consecutive days and three nights with eight hours of purposeful effort each day, and the participant must undertake a shared purposeful activity, with people who are not their usual colleagues or friends, in an unfamiliar residential setting for five consecutive days and four nights.
