The Dr Nelson Mandela Commemoration Boxing Bonanza scheduled to take place at the OR Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha this Saturday, July 27, has been postponed and a new venue announced.
According to Boxing SA provincial manager, Mzoli Tempi, the promotion company, Universal Boxing Promotion (UBP), has a development licence but needs to upgrade to an international licence to feature the World Boxing Federation (WBF) title fight.
Promoter David Faas said they will have events such as this again in Khayelitsha as soon as they have their licence upgraded. In the meantime, UBP have partnered with Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions (JBBP) to keep the boxing event going.
Brice said, JBBP in conjunction with UBP, will host the WBF intercontinental title fight and two female SA title fights, including Ntombokuqala Tolashe in the featherweight, and the provincial bantamweight champion Simamkele Tutsheni back in action, at Vibrant Sports in Ottery, on Saturday August 31.
Tempi acknowledged the support between the promoters, Brice and Faas, saying he “fully supports what they are doing for boxing.”
