Helderberg Academy of Theatre’s (HAT) premiere of a bold new production of Fiddler on the Roof comes to Somerset West’s beautiful community stage, The Playhouse, from Saturday February 15 to Tuesday February 25.
Audiences are invited to experience Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s Broadway classic on a musical and theatrical scale only musical theatre duo Darryl Spijkers and Jon-Pual Ruschenbaum can offer.
Following the success of the production at its critically acclaimed and award winning history, innovative designers Christalla Fernandes, Zanodean Cassiem and Jessica Engelbrecht tie this version of Fiddler on the Roof to Jewish ancestry and heritage, cantering tradition in every aspect of a thrillingly theatrical production.
The songs Tradition, Matchmaker and Sunrise, Sunset are the hits for which the show is remembered.

While the musical has always explored themes of tradition, family, and love, Spijkers’ brave direction offers an even closer look into how communities like Anatevka, where the musical is set, are still struggling in today’s world.
This widely acclaimed and experienced cast is supported by a large ensemble of dancers and musical and dramatic artists, paving the way for audiences to enjoy another unique musical theater experience that has become a HAT signature.
Experienced top HAT performers Griffin Poole and Andrew Goldie can be seen in their roles as Tevye and Lazar Wolf.
The other talented singing actors in the cast include Kelly Holmes and Tzietel, Nicola Wheeler as Golde, Kayla Rose Evans as Hodel, Nicola Janse van Rensburg as Chava, Caleb Vincent as Motel, William le Roux as Perchik, Francois Retief as Fyedka, Tristin Salter as the Rabbi, Ali Jones as the Constable, and Delinda Pelser as the essential comic relief of matchmaker Yente.
