Klapmuts police registered an inquest for investigation after a discovery of a foetus at the Klapmuts sewerage pump station on Saturday July 12.
In a statement, Stellenbosch Municipality said the incident was reported by two municipal officials who were on duty at the time, along with a security guard.
A trauma counselling and support service was organised for the affected staff members, according to the municipality.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi said the police officers were patrolling when they were informed by a community member of a strange object at a nearby sewerage station at around 8:30am. “Upon arrival they found a foetus."
