Marine life expert Georgina Jones will present a talk on the marine animals of the Cape Peninsula at the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club on Wednesday, September 18, at 6:30pm.

Ms Jones is affiliated with the Southern Underwater Research Group (SURG), which publishes specialist books on marine biodiversity. She wrote the popular diver’s handbook A Field Guide to the Marine Animals of the Cape Peninsula in 2008, and co-authored a book on the sea slugs (nudibranchs) of the Maputaland coast in 2019.

She has been an active marine naturalist and diver since 1990, when she first explored the waters of False Bay.

The talk will cover a wide range of marine animals, from whales to minute nudibranchs. Ms Jones will explore life in kelp forests, including fish, octopuses, crabs, and limpets. Sandy-bottom dwellers like wandering starfish and burrowing anemones, as well as the exquisite life on rocky reefs, will also be discussed.

This event is part of the SmallTalX series, connecting specialists from diverse fields into contact with the public for engaging talks on science and nature. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.

Tickets cost R125 a person. Booking is essential, as seats are limited. Reservations can be made by emailing smalltalx.info@gmail.com or by sending a WhatsApp message to 076 469 6485.
