Maitland Flying Squad arrested seven suspects after they found a facility manufacturing illegal alcohol on the R44 in Klapmuts, police said.

Members followed up on the information on Monday, September 8, and found the facility with alcohol manufacturing equipment inside the building, according to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, provincial police spokesperson.

“Seven Somalian nationals, five males aged between 25 and 43, and two females, both 20 were arrested for Contravention of the Liquor Act,” he said.

“The equipment that was confiscated is containers containing ethanol, ten big white 1 000 litre containers, empty bottles, and machines.”

 Once charged, the suspects are due to appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court.
