The Hottentots Holland Dramatic Society presents The Musical Songbook, with the Shiraz band and a line-up of vocalists and dancers with music direction by Helen Dooley and staging by Darryl Spijkers.
Known for their Helderberg Nature Reserve and other concerts, Shiraz is an upbeat all-harmonising music band, and have provided the music for hit musicals Neverland, Grease, The Wizard of Oz and more over the past 28 years at The Playhouse.
The Musical Songbook presents a line-up of musical hits from saucy musicals like Chicago and The Rocky Horror Show to classics like The Sound of Music and Cats.
There is something for the whole family, including The Jungle Book, Tangled and Cinderella.
Each of the shows will also star one of the winners of the Online Talent Search held while the theatre was closed. Rory Currin has created a digital display that will guide you through the musical journey as you get to enjoy posters and images from the shows.
“Musicals speak to us in so many ways. They say what cannot be said, they give us reminders from history and they take us away from the worries of the real world.
What better way to enjoy a night out than enjoying a great line-up of songs and dances from a variety of musicals,” says director Darryl Spijkers.
“We hope to see all our regular patrons at The Playhouse regardless of the lockdown as we are operating according to the correct limitations and restrictions. With Annie The Musical coming up in December – there is something for everyone to see in what is left of this year,” adds Darryl.
Tickets are available at Computicket, and there are eight shows from November 19 to December 5. Visit www.theplayhouse.org.za
