The Winelands Philharmonic Orchestra (WFO) will perform for the third consecutive year at the Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees on Sunday, October 12.
The community orchestra will bring together experienced musicians and local players in a performance of well-known favorites and a brand new work by the South African composer Kristi Boonzaaier.
The audience can look forward to a programme that mixes fresh local sounds with beloved classics. This year's programme puts new South African music in the spotlight with the debut of Mr Boonzaaier's violin concerto, and the famous soloist Eriel Huang.
Talking about the concert, Mr Boonzaaier said: "A journey of self-discovery, heritage and emergence. The first part, discovery, reflects the unpredictable path of personal growth, with moments of introspection and revelation. Heritage pays tribute to Eriel's multicultural background through folk songs and spirituals, weaving together poetry and music that shaped her artistic journey.
"The final part, emergence, bursting with energy and momentum, celebrates the courage to face the unknown. This concert is both a personal reflection and a celebration of the connections that bind us across cultures and generations."
The framework for this debut is formed by beloved classics such as Carl Maria von Weber's dramatic Overture to Der Freischütz and Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
The performance will be led by Reghardt Kühn, a conductor of Stellenbosch University and founder of the WFO.
The concert will take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch, and tickets are available at Quicket.
