The Heidelberg Village Music Society will conclude its 2025 season with a concert featuring the Jacaranda Trio — violinist Johanna Roos, pianist Albie van Schalkwyk, and cellist Jessica Bailey.

The performance will take place on Sunday, November 16.

The programme opens with Mozart’s Piano Trio in E major, K. 542, followed by Beethoven’s "Ghost" Trio in D major, Op. 70 No. 1. It concludes with Paul Juon’s Trio Miniatures.

All three members of the Jacaranda Trio are leading figures in South African chamber music. Mr Van Schalkwyk is one of the country’s most respected pianists, celebrated for his work as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. A graduate of the University of Cape Town, he continued his studies in London, winning both the UNISA Overseas Scholarship and the SABC Music Prize.

He later served as associate professor of piano and chamber music at UCT, co-founded the Songmakers’ Guild, and remains an active performer and teacher.

Ms Roos, the violinist, made her solo debut at the age of sixteen with the National Orchestra of South Africa and is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London. She has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the University of Pretoria, introduced the Colourstrings teaching method to South Africa, and is widely recognised for her versatility as performer, teacher, and adjudicator.

Ms Bailey, the cellist, studied in Geneva with Pierre Fournier and in London with Joan Dickson at the Royal College of Music. She performs with the Jacaranda Piano Trio and Ensemble Strelitzia, and is also known for her work as a visual artist and children’s book illustrator.

The concert starts at 4 pm at the Talani Terrace, Helderberg Village. Tickets are available for R130 at the Quicket. For more information, contact Laurien Comyn at 082 467 0337 or Peter Searle at 082 561 3052.
