On Wednesday December 11, Helderberg Hospice Carols by Candlelight took place at Vergelegen Estate, drawing hundreds of visitors for an enchanting evening of festive-season music and community spirit.
Under a clear, windless sky, the Great Lawn came alive with the voices of carollers, surrounded by the estate’s majestic Camphor trees, blooming Hydrangeas, and the dazzling Rose Garden in full bloom.
Helderberg Hospice CEO Robert de Wet welcomed everyone in attendance, and the well-known Rev Martin Lund, who is also past chairman of Helderberg Hospice, opened the Carols evening with a prayer.
Renowned conductor Richard Cock led the Cape Town Pops Orchestra and the Winelands Carols Choir in a program of timeless Christmas favourites, inspiring enthusiastic participation from adults and children alike.
Children eagerly came forward in their droves, and waved their hands, jingled their bells and joined in the singing.
As the sun set, the trees were lit in gorgeous colours and the many flickering candles created a magical and unforgettable atmosphere.
The event was not only a celebration of Christmas spirit but also a meaningful fundraiser for Helderberg Hospice, and Mr De Wet expressed his grateful thanks to all those who helped to make the evening so special.
