The Persian proverb, “The world is a rose, smell it, and pass it to your friends…” applies perfectly to one of the gardens on display for Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens Festival.
Roses form the centre of this garden, and they are also the focal point of richly planted borders. This is not only a rose garden – they mix freely with agapanthus, hydrangeas, nasturtium and fynbos.
The colour of the Iceberg roses echoes the detail on the beautiful gable of the Cape Dutch-style home picked out in white, and behind a row of trees the magnificent Hottentots Holland mountain range peaks are visible.
This beautiful garden is a must-see on your list of gardens for the Open Gardens weekend, where 14 gardens in the Helderberg will be on display, from Friday October 20 to Sunday October 22.
The weekend’s viewing starts at Helderberg Hospice, which includes the very special Garden of Remembrance, where you collect maps and directions to all the gardens on view.
Tickets can be bought at helderberghospice.org.za/shop/ and for more information call Celéstine on 076 062 5855.
