Streaming platform, Spotify has announced multi award winning R&B singer Elaine as its the EQUAL Artist for October 2024.

She is known for her unique blend of soulful and contemporary R&B, Elaine first captured global attention with her debut EP, Elements, back in 2019.

Her biggest audience on Spotify comes from South Africa, the U.S., Nigeria, Kenya, and the U.K., proving her global reach.

With hits like “You’re the One” and “When I’m in Love,” Elaine’s sound is instantly recognizable. She’s mastered the art of mixing heartfelt storytelling with unforgettable melodies.

“I’m so proud to be part of the EQUAL program and represent as an independent African woman,” Elaine shared.

“The music industry has traditionally been male-dominated, but I’m making my own space and claiming my power.”

Elaine’s next project, Stone Cold Heart, drops on October 11th. This album dives deep into her personal experiences with trauma and heartache, showing her growth as both a person and an artist. Expect a mix of powerful ballads and fresh sounds that showcase her evolution.

GQ sat down with Elaine to learn more about her and her music:

GQ: What is that one surprising thing your fans might not know about you?

Elaine: My fans seem to think I can't speak any South African languages. It's always so funny to me, but to clear the air I speak quite a few South African languages fluently.

GQ: When did you realize that making music was in your destiny and what is your WHY for pursuing this craft?

Elaine: I've loved music and believed it was my destiny since I was a little girl. I've been singing since I was six, it's been my main source of pride and what makes me feel like I have a purpose and that's why I'll never stop singing.

GQ: Which African songs or artists did you grow up listening to?

Elaine: Lebo Mathosa and Brenda Fassie.

GQ: To someone who has never heard your music, how would you describe the sound, tone, and style?

Elaine: My music is a true representation of my life, my heart and my thoughts; constantly evolving but at its core, it's true RnB. It's emotional, real and raw.

GQ: Any advice for someone dreading following their dreams?

Elaine: You deserve to give yourself a chance. Go for it.
