London - Almost a third of British women will not drive in the dark.
A recent study found women were nearly twice as likely as men to avoid driving in the dark, with 30 percent of women admitting to not driving after dark, compared with just 16 percent of men.
The report also found that the 5-6pm rush hour was the most dangerous time to be on the road, with an average of more than 283 crashes per minute during this time across the UK in 2015.
However the number of crashes peaked as the evenings get darker, with the sun setting earlier during the winter months.
In total there were almost 17 000 rush-hour collisions in the UK during 2015, rising to more than 55,000 when you widen the time period to the four hours between 4pm and 8pm, according to data obtained by Freedom of Information requests by Confused.com.
According to Confused.com’s own poll of 2000 motorists, 29 percent said the evening rush hour was their least preferred time to be on the road; 21percent of drivers admitted they least like driving late in the evening or at night, with 42 percent – 51 percent of women and 33 percent of men – saying they do not like driving in the dark. And 30 percent of women said they will not drive in the dark at all.
