Ongeziwe aims for world peace title

Ongeziwe Jakavula, of Milnerton, will be represent Africa in the Mrs World Peace 2021 pageant.

The event will be held virtually from Singapore, from Sunday February 7. The winner will be crowned on Sunday February 28, becoming an ambassador for world peace and women’s rights.

Ms Jakavula says she wants to use the pageant to promote unity among countries.

“I would like to work towards peace in the world by having different initiatives that I think would be beneficial and a lesson to all that through love, unity and ubuntu we can achieve more,” she said.

Ms Jakavula has studied finance, economics and accounting and has competed in several pageants - including National Supermodel RSA and Mrs Junior Grand SA Top Model - since starting her modelling career in 2010.

“I look forward to this journey, with all the challenges involved such as finding an African-themed costume and Covid-19 restrictions.”

Maynard Chizavare, the national director of Mrs World Peace, said: “This year no one is travelling to Singapore for the pageant due to Covid-19 restrictions. Each contestant will have a photoshoot done at home that will be sent to the judges. We are also waiting on the contestants sashes that were sent through mail from Singapore.”
