A dumping hot spot at the Milton Road entrance to Goodwood has been spruced up as part of a City beautification drive in the northern suburbs.
The project is a collaboration between the City and the community, according to ward councillor Cecile Janse van Rensburg.
Mayoral committee member for urban waste management Grant Twigg said illegal dumping was a magnet for further dumping.
“People are far more likely to dump on an existing pile of waste than they are to dump on a clean piece of land where good people congregate. This is why beautification of hot spots can be very effective."
Residents and members of the neighbourhood watch helped to remove rubbish, landscape the site and plant indigenous flora.
Ms Janse van Rensburg said she looked forward to similar projects and welcomed ideas from the community.
"I believe every person finds inspiration in something that is good to look at. The visual impact of projects such as these cannot be underestimated in our quest to build flourishing communities.“
