Chadleigh Gowar
The rich South African and indeed African jazz tradition is the soothing focus of the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM)’s balmy sunset picnic on Saturday February 24, next year when jazz stars pay tribute to this style of music rooted in the continent and its people.
Chadleigh Gowar brings together an incredible group of talented and experienced artists who will take the audience on a musical journey as the sun melts away behind the iconic monument.
Lady Felicity & The Trumpets, Richard Ceasar, Brent Cruz and Kinky Afro represent a variety of jazz genres, not to mention their energetic personalities and musical performances.
Mr Gowar is a recipient of the Gold Standard Bank Ovation award from the National Arts Festival 2021, and bass guitarist on kykNET & kie’s popular ‘Koortjies saam Jonathan Rubain’.
The evening’s jazz repertoire will include local, original and Afrikaans items, as well as dance music that will keep you on your feet throughout the evening.
The gates will open at 5pm and the music will kick off at 6pm. Guests are encouraged to explore the surroundings and the monument. A free guided tour takes place at 5.30pm to explain the history and symbolism.
For the children, outdoor games, playgrounds and lots of space await. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics and drinks (no glass) or to order picnic baskets in advance at Suikerkan via 082 216 2510 or info@diesuikerkan.co.za (this bistro will also sell refreshments during the event).
