If you love the Lourens River, make Thursday February 15 a red-letter date in your diary.
That is the request from the chairman of the Lourens River Conservation Society, Steven Louw, who has been pushing for the City of Cape Town and the people of the Helderberg Valley to co-create river management.
The invitation is from the Catchment, Stormwater & River Management Department, which will host a public meeting that day, from 6pm to 8pm, in the Strand Civic Centre, to present details of the various flood alleviation measures that will be constructed along the Lourens River between Beach Road in Strand and Meadow Lane in Somerset West.
The construction began in November last year, and will continue until the fourth quarter of 2025.
People attending this meeting will be given a description of the various flood alleviation measures to be constructed, their exact locations, and the dates when construction will take place. Maps will be available before the meeting.
Mr Louw added: “You are cordially invited to this public meeting, and we would appreciate your attendance, where the public will be given an opportunity to ask questions and provide commentary.’’
