Helderberg Hospice Celebrate International Nurses Day

Hospice Week is celebrated from Monday May 6 to Friday May 11, with International Nurses Day commemorated on May 12.
Helderberg Hospice would like to take the opportunity to shine a spotlight on these remarkable individuals who provide comfort, dignity, and support to patients and their families during life’s most challenging moments.
Hospice palliative care is a multidisciplinary approach which includes doctors, nurses and social workers to enhance the quality of life for people living with a life-threatening illness.
It focuses on pain management, symptom control, and emotional support. At the heart of this specialised care are nurses who possess not only clinical expertise but also empathy and understanding.
Helderberg Hospice nursing staff and social work staff, headed by Sr Thandi Sililo and Dianne Waddington respectively advise that palliative care is about being present, listening, and offering compassion.
“Each patient has a unique story, and our clinical staff honour that story and provide comfort and support to them and their loved ones.
“On this International Nurses Day, Helderberg Hospice would like to express gratitude to hospice nurses everywhere past and present for their tireless efforts, profound empathy, and unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses,” they said in a statement.
