The switching on of the Festive lights in Somerset West Main Road is one of the annual, traditional, popular occasions signalling the start of the festive season in the streets of Somerset West. Hosted on Thursday December 12, at the Somerset West Town Hall, Ward 84 Councillor Norman McFarlane, pictured above, had the honour of mastering the ceremony.

The ceremony was well-attended as can be seen with the crowd gathered in Main Road waiting in anticipation for the moment the Festive lights are switched on.
Councillor McFarlane said the appreciative crowd clapped and cheered when the lights went on after partaking in a fun crowd-based countdown. The Christmas lights are now officially on can be viewed every night after dark, by visitors to the Somerset West Main Road.
Community support on the night was evident. One of the groups who came out to show their support were members of The Sir Lowry’s Pass Community in Blue project, pictured here at the festivities with Councillor McFarlane.
