1000 Mandrax tablets found in KZN
A discovery of 1 000 Mandrax tables were recovered on Friday February 14, by the Metro Police, working with Counter Narcotics in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).
The Metro Police, Counter Narcotics and DPCI conducted a successful operation targeting a drug distribution syndicate operating in Montford, Chatsworth. Officers intercepted a vehicle on February 14, after receiving information that a large quantity of drugs was being transported, said eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Ms Gugu Sisilana.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 1 000 Mandrax tablets concealed in a black packet on the passenger seat. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle seized as it was used in the commission of an offence. Further investigations led officers to the suspect’s residence where a ‘kitchen lab’ was discovered. A second suspect was found inside, manufacturing crack cocaine,” said Ms Sisilana.
The two men, aged 51 and 54, were arrested and are expected to appear at the Chatsworth Magistrate Court. Officers seized the additional drugs, including Mandrax tablets, crack cocaine, and miracle powder as well as drug paraphernalia such as smoking pipes, scales, and glass bowls. The total estimated value of the confiscated drugs and equipment was R156 850.
“The Metro Police remains committed to tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety of communities. The city commends the officers involved in the operation for their dedication and professionalism which has resulted in fewer drugs on the street. The public is urged to report suspicious drug-related activities to law enforcement authorities,” said Ms Sisilana.
