AN ALLEGED Fancy Boys gang member who was bust with a moerse arsenal of guns and ammunition has been convicted before for firearm charges, the Bellville Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
This was revealed as Marwaan "Wonky" Alexander appeared alongside his motjie Raushan de Villiers on a slew of charges following the helse bust earlier this week.
The couple from Labiance were arrested at a storage unit in Bellville South on Monday when cops caught Alexander red handed inside the unit.
At the time a Daily Voice source revealed that the duo arrived in a Golf 7 GTI and Alexander was allegedly busy loading guns and ammo when they were uitgevang.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, said cops uncovered three AK-47 rifles, one R5 rifle, one assault rifle, 12 pistols, three Uzzis, four shotguns, two revolvers, 50 000 Mandrax tablets, six M26 grenades and a large quantity of an assortment of rounds of ammunition.
According to the charge sheet the couple now face a slew of firearm related charges as well as the illegal possession of ammunition and Mandrax pille.
The couple were represented by Advocate Bruce Hendricks said a bail affidavit had been drafted for De Villiers who had no previous convictions, pending matters or warrants of arrest saying the defence could not understand why her bail application could not go ahead.
He admitted: "Accused no. 1 [Alexander] has a previous conviction for possession of an unlicensed firearm and he was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court in 2004 to an effective term of nine years imprisonment."
The Magistrate postponed the case to 12 March for the bail hearing to proceed.
