The Helderberg Village Music Society invites music lovers to an enchanting concert on Sunday, August 24, featuring cellist Babette Roosenschoon and pianist Esthea Kruger in a moving recital titled HerStory.
This curated programme explores the emotional depth and lyrical beauty of romantic chamber music, with a special spotlight on often-overlooked female composers.
The concert presents a compelling mix of works: Ethel Smyth’s expressive Sonata in A minor, Clara Schumann’s tender and lyrical Three Romances, and Johannes Brahms’s Sonata in E minor. These compositions promise an hour of deeply rewarding listening.
Ms Roosenschoon, a performer and educator, has graced stages across Europe, the United States of America, and Southern Africa. A passionate chamber musician and cello lecturer at Stellenbosch University, she brings a depth of artistry shaped by international study and a versatile performance career, including her years with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Joining her is Esthea Kruger, an award-winning pianist and lecturer at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. Esthea’s refined musicianship has earned her top honours in South African competitions and international recognition in Europe and the United States.
Her work as a soloist, chamber musician, and artistic director of art song festivals reflects her dedication to musical excellence and innovation.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear two of South Africa’s finest musicians in an intimate performance celebrating both the familiar and the rediscovered voices of the Romantic era.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at 3.30pm, for 4pm start at the venue Talani Terrace, Helderberg Village. You can get tickets for R130 at Quicket.
