Helderberg Hospice received a generous donation of 30 soft, warm blankets on Friday, August 15.

Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club president, Gail Sykes, presented the blankets to the hospice facility, along with the dedicated Home Care nursing team.

“These blankets will be delivered directly to patients in the community who need warmth and comfort during the cold, wet winter months.

“For many, living with the symptoms of serious illness is already a daily challenge, one that is made even harder by difficult living conditions. The thoughtful donation will help ease their discomfort and bring a measure of relief and dignity,” Louise Smith, the head of the resources department.

Brian de Villiers, the secretary of the Rotary Club, said they run an annual winter blanket drive, where they collect donations that are used to purchase the blankets.

“For the past two years, we have had a stand at Waterstone Shopping Centre over a three day period in order to collect donations from the public. A donation of R100 buys a good-quality warm blanket.”

He added that they distribute these blankets to needy people via community organisations, and have also distributed 36 blankets to the elderly in Garden Village on Monday, August 11.
