Western Cape Arts Society will host watercolourist Stephen Quirke on Thursday, September 11 at 6pm.
He will showcase how to paint with watercolours by explaining and physically performing techniques like wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, colour mixing, and layering washes.
Mr Quirke said he learnt watercolour in 1985 in Swakopmund, Namibia and was awarded the Best Watercolour in the annual exhibition by the South African Society of Artists (SASA) in 2023.
He said he currently has a watercolour accepted in the San Diego Watercolour Society 2025 International exhibition opening at the end of September, and three watercolours in the SASA annual exhibition.
“Visual art touches us in deep places, and watercolour carries impact beyond the plan and the skill of the artist.”
The event will take place at the Rotary Club Hall, Lourensford Road, Somerset West. It will cost R20 a person for the members of the art society and R30 for non-members.
