Strand library to host Children’s Book and Story Festival

Strand library will host the Children’s Book and Story Festival on Thursday, October 25, from 10am to noon.

This year's Children’s Book and Story Festival is expected to bring together a diverse line-up of 11 authors on Thursday, October 25, from 10am to noon.

Rene Walker, area head for Helderberg district libraries, said Strand library would host the festival, with support from neighbouring libraries.

Activities on the day will include story time, book displays, signings, and an opportunity to meet and greet authors.

“Families, young readers, educators, and book lovers are invited to enjoy a morning of storytelling magic, author meet and greets, and book-inspired activities,” she said.

Featured authors are: 

  •  Vennessa Scholtz – Award-winning journalist and author of Kita and the Dusty Red Road and Ellie and the Good Hair Fairy. International recognition includes the Paris Book Festival and the SA Literature Awards.
  •  Charné Malan – Model, actress, entrepreneur, and author, focused on youth empowerment through storytelling.
  •  Emmie Smit – Writer, illustrator, and former KOVSIES lecturer. Known for her vibrant storytelling and children’s books.
  •  Karen Cammell – Educator and children’s author passionate about nature, learning, and wonder.
  •  Tamsyn Cornelius – Author of It’s Okay, Little Star, inspiring faith, identity, and kindness in young readers.
  • Gaireyah Fredericks – Multi-award-winning poet, screenwriter, and cultural advisor. Author of Een Voet Innie Kabr.
  • Troula Goosen – Afrikaans youth fiction writer with eight published titles and a passion for mentoring teen writers.
  • Julie Daniels – Poet and author of Gediggies Van Die Kaap, writing about respect, grief, and resilience.
  • Linda Rode – Legendary Afrikaans children’s author and editor known for Goue Fluit, My Storie Is Uit, In die Nimmer-Immer-Bos, and more.
  • Jana du Plessis Müller – Copywriter and chick lit author of Vat ’n Gap and Mieke Rock
  • Uit, with a flair for storytelling.
  •  Heléne de Clercq – NB Publishers regional manager and author of children’s books for ages nine to 12. A Kilimanjaro conqueror and creative at heart.
