Police arrest alleged drug dealer in Sea Point after tip-off

Sea Point police arrested a 48-year-old man for alleged drug dealing after a tip-off from a member of the public led officers to a suspicious transaction along Beach Road on Monday, December 15.

Sea Point police arrested a 48-year-old man for alleged drug dealing after a tip-off from a member of the public led officers to a suspicious transaction along Beach Road on Monday, December 15.

According to police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, officers were patrolling the area when a concerned community member alerted them to a suspected drug deal and pointed out the suspect.

"They immediately stopped him and conducted a search, during which 21 bankies of tik, one full mandrax tablet, 16 half mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of cash were found," she said.

Police recognised the man as someone already on their radar for alleged illegal drug activity, according to Constable Gwala.

The suspect was arrested and is expected to make his first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on a charge of dealing in drugs.

In a separate incident, Vredendal police arrested a 22-year-old man for alleged drug dealing during the execution of a search warrant at a property in Hoog Street. Officers seized 18 mandrax tablets during the operation. The suspect is due to appear in the Vredendal Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Meanwhile, members of the Lockdown III unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation at a residence in Soetdoring Road, Bonteheuwel. The operation led to the discovery of 511 mandrax tablets, four half mandrax tablets, one packet of crystal meth, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Two suspects, aged 23 and 32, were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs. They are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been finalised.

Meanwhile, Vredendal police arrested a 22-year-old man for alleged drug dealing during the execution of a search warrant at a property in Hoog Street. Officers seized 18 mandrax tablets during the operation.

The police operation led to the discovery of a large quantity of mandrax, one packet of crystal meth, and an undisclosed amount of cash in Bonteheuwel during the operation this week.
