Three suspects have been arrested after they were caught red-handed with a stolen vehicle which had a flat tyre, bringing an end to their crime spree.

Thanks to the vigilant action of the Sandvlei Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), who spotted the trio with a stolen Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie along Beach Road in Macassar, which had a flat tyre and was apparently on their way to carry out another robbery when they were foiled.

According to the neighbourhood watch, the bakkie had been stolen from a property in Macassar during the early hours of Saturday, January 3.

“Sandvlei NHW would like to report a successful operation this morning (Sunday, January 4) at 1:40am. While on patrol, three suspects were apprehended on Beach Road, suspected of stealing a Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie in Link Avenue, Macassar.

“The suspects were targeting another bakkie on Beach Road, Kramat, when they were caught by the Sandvlei NHW," said the NHW.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the trio was arrested for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle and car breaking implements.

"A white bakkie was stolen early morning from the Macassar area. The owner noticed it missing around 4.30am. At about 5am, a friend spotted the bakkie standing on the N2 with hazards on and a flat wheel. By the time the owners got there, it was gone again.”

“The suspects will appear in the Somerset Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 5. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
