Fire and Rescue Services from Drakenstein Municipality are continuing efforts to extinguish a fire at the Wellington Waste Water Treatment Plant that first broke out on Monday, January 5.
According to the municipality, the smoke and unpleasant smell currently affecting the area are caused by a small section deep within the fire zone that is still smouldering.
"Our dedicated fire crews remain on site and are working closely with teams from our Water and Wastewater divisions to open access points and flood them with water," the municipality said in a statement.
