Residents and road users in several parts of Cape Town should expect delays as the City begins a major road resurfacing project across the eastern region.

The work is scheduled to continue until the end of March 2026, and will take place from Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.

The City’s Road Infrastructure Management department is leading the project, which includes resurfacing, rehabilitation, and repair of isolated kerbs and channels.

“Maintaining our roads is one of the ways in which we continue to keep Cape Town moving,” said Councillor Roberto Quintas, mayoral committee member for urban mobility.

"The road works in Strand commenced last week and a team will start in Macassar on January 19, 2026. Residents in Somerset West and Firgrove can expect works to start later this month."

The roads affected include:

Macassar: Lah, Mes, Doh, Fah, Ray, Mountain Rose, Nandina, Anthurium, Fuschia, Tulip, Dahlia, Orchid, and Amaryllis Roads.

Firgrove: Grove, Fifth, Sixth Streets, and Eike Avenue.

Strand: Johanna Presence, Ebrahim Bazier Crescent, Jamiah Gafaldien, John Wyngaard, Lodewyk, Forbes, Third, Fourth, Albatros, Hofmeyer, Van der Spuy, Van der Merwe, Alex Pienaar, Leipoldt, Scarbrow, Neethling, Cradock, and Morkel Streets.

• Somerset West: Tharina Street, Kleinbos Lane, and Drakenstein Streets.

Kuils River: Vlei, Talana, Kamp, Maze, Mouton, Liedla, Harmonie, Aristo, Sara Goldblat Avenue, Loeloeraai, Rosenow, Bosbokkie, Eland, Planeet, and Duiker Streets.

Mr Quintas warned that traffic congestion is likely, as lanes in both directions will be affected.

“Residents are advised that congestion in these areas can be expected since traffic travelling in both directions will be affected. Road users are urged to consider alternative routes while roadworks are underway.

"We ask that residents please remain vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces and be mindful of the construction workers,’' he said.
