A fire that broke out at the premises of Strandfoam off Broadlands Road in Strand on Wednesday, January 21, afternoon was successfully brought under control in the early hours of Thursday morning, with no injuries or structural damage reported.

City's Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, said emergency crews were alerted to the incident at around 3pm on Wednesday, after reports of black smoke coming from a building in the area.

The Incident Management Team was dispatched to the scene, along with multiple firefighting resources. Mr Carelse said the fire initially appeared like large bales of foam that were alight.

Firefighters worked through the night using a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) to contain the blaze, which was brought under control at around 1.15am on Thursday. Two fire vehicles remained on site thereafter to attend to hot spots.

"None of the buildings were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown," said Mr Carelse.

In a statement, the manufacturing firm said the fire was contained to an isolated open storage area at its head office and was swiftly managed due to effective safety protocols and the professional response of emergency services.

The company expressed its gratitude to the City for the rapid response, with multiple fire trucks arriving within 20 minutes, as well as Disaster Management, Traffic Services, and other emergency services.

The firm further said: "Most importantly, we are thankful that our employees are safe and are pleased to confirm that there will be no business interruptions. Operations will continue as normal."
