Art lovers in Somerset West will have a chance to watch creativity unfold when acclaimed Strand-based artist Coleen Pienaar takes to the easel for a live oil painting demonstration, hosted by the Western Cape Art Society (WCAS) this month.

The demonstration will take place on Thursday, February 12, at the Rotary Club Hall on Lourensford Road, with proceedings starting at 6:30pm.

Ms Pienaar is widely known for her realistic oil paintings and emotionally evocative subject matter. Her work captures moments of beauty, movement, and quiet wonder, often featuring dancers, portraits, florals, and elements of nature such as birds, bees, and butterflies.

While she works primarily in oil, Ms Pienaar also explores acrylic, sculptured painting, watercolour, and charcoal. Her signature style blends technical mastery with a deep sensitivity to emotion, light, and form.

She said among her most celebrated works are her three-dimensional sculptured ballerina paintings, which bring a sense of movement and elegance to life, as well as her strikingly realistic portraiture that reveals both character and story.

Ms Pienaar’s work has been showcased at several notable events, including the Greyton Art Walk in November 2025. She also shares her creative journey and latest works on social media under Coleen Pienaar Artist.

The cost to attend the demonstration is R20 per person for WCAS members and R30 for non-members, which includes tea, coffee, and snacks.

Guests are encouraged to arrive from 6pm.
