Snake catcher and wildlife conservationist Blackie Swart will be the guest speaker at the Hottentots Holland Garden Club’s next meeting on Wednesday, February 11, at the Somerset West Library.

The meeting will start at 10am at the library on Oak Street, Somerset West. Mr Swart will present a talk titled “Snakes”, focusing on snake awareness, safety, and conservation.

He has worked as a snake catcher for the past 15 years, and is known for relocating snakes safely back into the wild. He previously served as a police reservist for 28 years and now relies on donations to fund his snake relocation work.

With summer temperatures increasing snake activity across the Helderberg basin, Mr Swart is currently experiencing one of the busiest periods of his career.

He emphasised the importance of protecting both snakes and communities during the peak season.
