The Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas Kaapse Klopse Voorsmaakie set the stage for what promises to be another exhilarating minstrel season.
Held at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse recently, it gave attendees a vibrant preview of what is to be expected at the 2025 Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade on Saturday January 4, 2025.
The Voorsmaakie featured 18 minstrel troupes, each showcasing their dazzling eccentric and colours attire, talented members, and intricately choreographed routines.
Thousands of spectators soaked in the festive atmosphere as the troupes gave a glimpse of the lively performances that define Cape Town’s cultural heritage.
The event is the annual opener to the minstrel season, which is also the second biggest parade outside of Tweede Nuwe Jaar.
Director of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA), Muneeb Gambeno, said: “This year’s Voorsmakie was a spectacular season opener, with all 18 troupes delivering stand-out performances.”
“It’s a true testament to the dedication and passion of our troupes and sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting and vibrant Klopse season ahead.”
KKKA operations director, Riyaad Peters, said they expected fireworks as the minstrel season kicked off.
“The Voorsmaakie always kicks off the season with a bang and judging on how successful this weekend’s season opener went, we anticipate another jam-packed schedule of Klopse fun.”
Building on the success of this event, the excitement now turns to the Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade next month. Up to 100 000 spectators are expected to gather along the famous route, which starts in District Six, continues via Darling Street, and ends in Bo-Kaap.
The highly anticipated Athlone Stadium kick-off will take place on Wednesday January 1, expected to draw weekly audiences of 20 000 every Saturday until February 1. Tickets for the Hollywoodbets Purple Mile grandstand for Saturday January 4 and the Athlone Stadium events went live on Sunday December 22 on Computicket and quickly sold out.
