Burlesque is back!
Celebrating 77 years of the Playhouse Theatre and all it does for our community is the back-by- popular-demand return of the fabulous vaudevillian song and dance spectacular: Show me how you Burlesque.
The 2023 show sold out and left audiences asking for more. The song list includes hits from musicals such as Cabaret, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The new look show has added some scintillating numbers from Dirty Dancing, The Great Gatsby, James Bond, Tina and more. With a few topless guys and the girls mostly in their bustier’s and stockings – this show is limited to audiences over the age of 16.
Under the direction of Darryl Spijkers and Jon-paul Ruschenbaum (Sister Act and more) the show is packed with 34 foot-tapping numbers as you go on a glitzy journey through some of the hottest musical and movie numbers.
To bring to life the visual feast is Christella Fernandes on costumes, Zanodean Cassiem on set and Lathum van Rooyen on lights.
“Audiences loved the entire experience of coming to the theatre with friends and being entertained by excellent singing and dancing – leaving you feeling like you have been to one great party – the perfect way to spend an evening out,” says Spijkers.
“The Playhouse caters for a wide range of styles and tastes and this one is specifically for the more mature audience that appreciates good choreography and iconic cabaret numbers.
“We are so excited for the 16 show run with the volunteer team putting in all the work all in aid of the continued theatre upgrades.”
Choreographers include volunteers from the base of amazing members: Sume Lotter-Christodoulou, Tanya Erasmus, Catherine van Graan, Isabel Fefue, Kaylee Martin and Tracey Storzner.
Singers include Travis and Jarred Pitout, Angie Mitchell, Ninke Theron and more.
The show runs from November 5 to November 16, with Ladies Nights on November 5 and November 12, where there are specials at the bar and some extra fun.
