Drakenstein Municipality has for the 10th time achieved a clean audit opinion since 2011, from the Auditor-General of South Africa, for the 2023/24 financial year.
“This is a fantastic accomplishment and proof that our administration is committed to managing our rates-and-tax payers’ money and other income wisely and responsibly. Everybody at Drakenstein Municipality should be proud of this achievement,” said Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality.
“The fact that we could retain our clean audit for a sixth consecutive year is no small feat, given the tough year we have had. Our Municipality was ravaged by severe storms, floods and fires, and there was a change in the political leadership, as well as an election that could so easily have shifted our focus. But the team remained committed to uncompromising fiscal discipline, good and clean governance, and responsible financial management – the clean audit is their reward.”
In his final report for the 2023/24 financial year, the Auditor-General commended Drakenstein Municipality for maintaining its clean audit outcome for the sixth consecutive year. “It is acknowledged that creating good governance and administration and maintaining it requires a combined effort from all role-players in the accountability ecosystem.
“Maintaining the clean audit outcome requires continued focus on financial management, performance management, compliance and maintaining data integrity, while also ensuring that service delivery is achieved,” said the Auditor-General.
The Executive Mayor said while it was a team effort, he would like to thank and congratulate the whole management team on this victory. “I want to extend a special thank you to Dr Johan Leibbrandt, the City Manager, and Bradley Brown, our Chief Financial Officer, and his team. We also should not forget the role that our Deputy Executive Mayor, Alderman Gert Combrink, plays as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee for Finance and we thank him too for his contribution.”
