■ The 2018 South African Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Expo will take place in and around the Laurent Room on Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West on Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29. The retail day on Saturday July 28 will feature fly tying and casting demonstrations, casting lessons, as well as a wide range of exhibitors offering fly fishing trips to international and local destinations, fly fishing products and fly tying products. Entry costs R150 and tickets can be bought for cash only at the venue on the day. Entry for children under 12 is free. Sunday July 29 is workshop day, starting with registration at 8am. Eight workshops will be on offer, with each being presented twice during the day, over four sessions. Entry for the day costs R200, and participants will attend four different workshops during the day. Topics to be covered are: Smallmouth Bass by Conrad Botes and Herman Botes; Stillwater trout by Matt Rich and Dan Factor; Cape stream 101 by Tim Rolston; Euro nymphing by Jacques Marais; Largemouth yellows by Garth Wellman; Carp by Leonard Flemming and Platon Trakoshis; Grunter 101 by MC Coetzer and Jannie Visser; Flyline 101 by Airflos Gareth Jones.
