LOUISE SMITH: HELDERBERG HOSPICE
For nearly 40 years, Helderberg Hospice has been a lifeline for those facing life limiting illnesses, providing the Helderberg community with quality palliative care.
As a non-profit organisation, it depends on the generosity of local supporters, and recent acts of kindness have brought warmth and joy to both patients and staff.
Helderberg Hospice Quilters Guild donated 12 exquisite patchwork quilts. These vibrant, hand-stitched masterpieces now adorn all 10 beds in the 24-hour Support Centre, adding a colourful, homely touch to the patients’ rooms.
Els Barnard, a member of the guild, presented two additional quilts, which will be raffled at the upcoming Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens Festival, taking place from Friday October 25 to Sunday October 27.
Visitors to the festival can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of these beautiful creations.
The Anglican Women’s Fellowship of St Paul’s in Faure also contributed to the hospice’s ongoing mission, delivering care packs filled with essential toiletries.
These “blessing bags” provide much-needed comfort for patients, especially those receiving care in their own homes.
Hospice nurses are eager to distribute these thoughtful gifts, which bring a bit of brightness to the lives of those they tend to.
Additionally, a local ladies group known as The Daisies chose to recognise the hard-working hospice staff by gifting them with bags of treats, which included handmade and beautifully iced biscuits.
Large smiles from dedicated staff members showed the pleasure that this acknowledgement from the community brought them.
Helderberg Hospice’s work is a testament to the power of community, and these recent contributions are a reminder that support comes in many forms, each equally appreciated.
