As residents at the Helderberg Society for the Aged (HSFA) in Vonke House, Swannack Gardens, and the frail care facility are in lockdown, HSFA management thought it would be a nice idea to video residents with a drone to connect them with their loved ones. They were invited to come out onto their balconies or into their gardens and wave up at the drone so that they could (virtually) wave at their families abroad or locally. The residents of HSFA Vonke House and Swannack Gardens loved it and they really enjoyed the novel opportunity of been filmed by a drone, and to say hi to their loved ones. The footage has just been shared on HSFA social media. Rika Rodd, CEO of HSFA said: “Happy waves and smiling eyes were on every balcony and in every garden at Vonke Park as the drone passed by so the HSFA residents could wave to their families and friends, locally and abroad. The Covid-19 lockdown has been essential for the safety of our residents, but also has not stopped the pouring out of love across long distances.”
