Pichi Keane, a singer based in the Boland, launches onto the Pop and Dance scene with their debut hit single officially released on Friday March 15, Came Here To Dance – an euphoric dance floor hit demanding death drops from every Heather, big girl, baby gay and everyone in between and beyond.
The lyrics of the track carry a strong social message in a playful, feisty tone and encourages a kind reminder of the importance of consent.
Pichi Keane advocates for the importance of consent on the dance floor, reminding us that respect is non-negotiable when it comes to getting down.
In Pichi Keane’s own words, “I wrote Came Here To Dance a couple of years ago, and performed it live to a small audience for the first time with just a ukulele as accompaniment early in 2020. I think it’s fair to say that it had humble beginnings, but I’m in awe of the talent and enthusiasm André brought to this project.
“He really captured the essence of what I was hearing in my mind, and he encouraged me to take chances with the vocals which has elevated the song as a whole. I’m really excited for listeners to hear it, to feel empowered to take up space and honour their boundaries.”
Producer on the single Came Here To Dance, André Scheepers is a South African composer and songwriter who has had a hand in many chart-topping songs over the last two decades including hits from Tasha Baxter, Jesse Clegg, Auriol Hays, Johnny Apple, Bobby Van Jaarsveld and Chianosky to name a few.
No stranger to the spotlight, Pichi Keane has already left their mark on the stage. With a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award from the National Arts Festival under their belt and sold-out performances along the Garden Route during their solo drag cabaret tour, Ripe ’n Ready, Pichi is a force to be reckoned with.
Prepare to be swept away by Pichi Keane’s infectious energy and bold attitude with Came Here To Dance.
The cabaret tour, Ripe ’n Ready is described by Pichi as a “musical glamour clown extravaganza” and is a heady mix of live sung pop songs with a cabaret twist, a side of raunchy stand-up comedy and a touch of tease that has left countless audiences begging for more. She is currently touring South Africa with the raunchy musical glamour clown extravaganza.
