After a hiatus of more than a decade, Fabriazo Langford, also known as rapper FAB, is back on the music scene with new beats.
Originally from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Langford moved to Johannesburg to pursue music, before settling in Somerset West a few years ago.
The vibey rapper, who once enjoyed international exposure touring the UK and being signed to international record labels, says he has been influenced and inspired by the Cape Town rap scene and is now ready to make a comeback with a new track.
Langford says he collaborated on a new single, Lekker innie Kaap, with two local artists.
Bolander caught up with FAB behind the scenes while he was shooting the music video for their new single in Strand at The Bacon Spot, owned by FAB’s good friend Clifford Bacon.
The irresistible beauty of Cape Town, he says, was the inspiration behind the new single.
“Meeting its people and noticing a genuine kindness in the air here is what motivated me to work with local artists Kelvin Kruger, aka Mystery, from Gordon’s Bay and Nado Booysen also known as Nadeblaq, from Macassar,” says Langford.
Booysen says he can’t wait for the release of the song. “We tested the waters, and the single is actually making major moves, we got people far and wide liking it, people as far as Piketberg, Springbok, everybody is just jamming to the track, and I think it’s a positive response and I can’t wait for the video.”
Kruger says people’s response to hearing the single has been positive. “I think FAB really nailed this one to represent Cape Town and I asked a couple of people what they think of the song, and they really love it.”
The new single has Langford excited. “Lekker innie Kaap celebrates Cape Town and its people as the title insinuates… so we try to give back by being of service which is my top priority as group manager.”
The plan for the new group is to form a South African bilingual rap group.
“We will definitely have individual projects as well as individual Afrikaans projects, it should be very exciting and it’s going to be the first of its kind, similar to Prophets of Da City, but where they intermingled the two languages, we plan to put out English international style music as well as Afrikaans music that South Africans can be proud of,” said Langford.
The single is set for release on Saturday October 12. The public will be able to listen to it on Spotify and YouTube.
