On November 25, a resident of Reservoir Road posted a photo of a three-legged dog resting on the verge late at night.
She tried to call him, but he bolted, and so began the story of an epic adventure of over 100km by a brave and clever boy, who had been abandoned on the streets of Somerset West.
He was seen in the Silverboomkloof area, Old Stellenbosch Road, and then a few days later, passing Schonenberg Estate.
There was no news of his whereabouts until a few days later, when he was seen on the streets of Durbanville, then Kenridge, and Haasendal Estate in the Bottelary area, where he sat on a resident’s lawn looking longingly at their chicken braai.
Just then, a delivery scooter passed by their house, and he bolted once more, not to be seen again until a few days later, in Parow.
Thanks to community efforts, he was finally captured in Stellenridge, Parow, on Monday December 9, after crossing the N1 at least twice, being out in the rain, going without food for many days, and managing to avoid traffic all the way.
He has been in the good care of Jack’s Rescue organisation in Philippi since then, and is up for adoption by a loving owner.
He is a good-natured and friendly boy, knee-height size, and will make a lovely companion for any dog lover. Being a tripod doesn¹t hold him back in the least, he is agile and loves to walk and run.
It would be wonderful if he could find a new home in Somerset West.
