The World Champions flex their muscles
So the Rugby Championship officially kicked off this weekend and boy did the Springboks show up.
How disrespectful of me, Springboks?
The current four time, back-to-back, World Cup winning Springboks, let’s not start this off on the wrong foot.
The Springboks showed up against the Aussies and completely displayed dominance. Rucks, mauls, line-outs, scrum time, backline and even our jerseys look better.
Australia really came with lots of hope, but it will take more than just hope to stop that green machine.
Let’s talk about the All Blacks though, who suffered a blackout and a few black eyes in their first game with a stubborn Argentinian team.
Led by that former Crusader, Pablo Matera, what a soldier! The Argentenians never dreamt of giving up and once they sniffed blood and saw that this current All Blacks team a bunch of softies, they took full advantage.
They were all over the All Blacks, not time and no space, and most importantly, never gave the All Blacks a chance to breath.
Now hold on, why are the All Black so significant when we started off speaking about the World Champs, you ask?
Well, All Black rugby is supposed to be in this “new era” as our fellow Cape Town All Black supporters put it and when the Crusaders most successful coach took over the reigns, the threats were flying all over the show.
Two wins over the English in his first two tests and suddenly the All Blacks thought they are back.
Scott Robertosn, fondly known as “Razor” to the All Black fan base, is as sharp as a minora blade bought from one of the babi stores alongside the road.
The step up to international rugby was always going to be a challenge, but perhaps that should have been discussed first before we had to hear about the man’s success rate at domestic level.
In the green half of the camp, where the four time back-to-back World Champions hang out, we have Dr Rassie Erasmus, building arguably one of the strongest rugby squads.
After whipping the Aussies last week, King Rassie has made 10 changes to this week’s starting line up in Perth.
10 changes that could act as and be the same force as the previous 10 players. Now imagine that.
South African rugby has for a long been on the rise, with a few setbacks here and there and still we have a few things we need to tidy up on. Like perhaps trying to get Willie Le Roux a contract in Saudi Arabia with one of these mega money teams.
If there is one thing I disagree strongly with is the inclusion of that oupa, who has done enough for SA Rugby, but now needs to realise that he will not make the next World Cup and it’s time for the new generation to take over.
I hope this lands on Rassie‘s desk and while you are reading this, I am a size extra large, as those new warm up kits look dope.
Back to rugby, keep up the great work and the brand of rugby on display is really keeping us all on our toes and GoalMOUTH likes it.
Onto a new week, will the All Blacks redeem themselves or does the mighty Springboks secure the Championship in record breaking time? No offence to the All Blacks and Argentina. Being a four time back-to-back World Champion makes you give off a different kind of confidence.
