Strand Surf Lifesaving Club is one of 17 voluntary lifesaving clubs in the greater Cape, that have received donations of sporting goods from Stellenbosch based sports marketing agency, Stillwater Sports Management.
The former president of Western Province Lifesaving, Jurie Wessels, has been involved with lifesaving for over 50 years, having served on committees at club, provincial and national level.
“Lifesaving is a voluntary community service,” says Mr Wessels. “I’m a life member of Strand Surf Lifesaving Club.
“The products received from Stillwater Sports Management have been shared between 17 clubs from Kogel Bay in the east, Strand, all around False Bay up to Fish Hoek. Then on the Atlantic Coast from Llandudno to Big Bay at Blaauwberg. Club members are drawn from various communities, some very disadvantaged. The gear will help them perform their duties more comfortably.”
“We are proud to be able to support local communities and are really happy that the excess event goods can be put to good use,” says Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports Management.
“Our donations usually consist of a combination of products including T-shirts, caps, swim caps, water bottles, shoelaces and drawstring bags. Each item is brand new.
“The items can no longer be used at our events, either due to logo changes, or updated colour schemes. It gives us great pleasure knowing that the schools and lifesaving services are putting the goods to great use.”
Two schools in Bonnievale also received donations from Stillwater Sports Management.
