Acclaimed international choreographer Nacho Duato is heading to the Mother City for the first time.
Duato, from Spain, will be collaborating on a project with Cape Ballet Africa and the Artscape Theatre to produce the new show BREATHWORDS.
Invited by the Consulate General of Spain in Cape Town, with the support of the Spanish Government through the Embassy of Spain in Pretoria, Duato is expected to present his choreography REMANSO in the framework of the new show BREATHWORDS by Cape Ballet Africa.
He will also be conducting masterclasses thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Consulate with Cape Ballet Africa and Artscape.
Debbie Turner, director of Cape Ballet described Duato's work: “Nacho Duato’s REMANSO is an expressive, playful, sensual work”. REMANSO is an all-male work originally created on American Ballet Theatre, New York in 1997.
The Embassy of Spain in South Africa, the Consulate General of Spain in Cape Town, and AECID Spanish Cooperation are proud to support this presentation of BREATHWORDS in Cape Town.
They agree the collaboration reflects Spain’s commitment to cultural exchange and artistic excellence, showcasing the powerful dialogue between movement, music, and human expression that defines Duato’s work.

"For 20 years he was the director of the Spanish National Dance Company and his choreographies have become part of the repertoire of the most prestigious international companies. And it is especially exciting to have him working together with South African dancers and conducting workshops in Cape Town during his stay," Silva added.
The no to be missed this historic presentation of a world class ballet choreography will run between March 25 to 27 at the Artscape.
